(GUIDE) Beginner's Guides (2024)

Below are everything you need to know to start your own journey in Taming.io!

INTERFACE / PET CHOOSING

When you open the web page, it is preferable to register your account so your scores can be saved, but remember to log in first before starting the game. After registering your account, you are almost ready to start the game. You need to type a username and choose a pet. The username is unnecessary to fill, which means you can also join the game with an empty name.

After you register and fill in the username, you also can choose a server. The game had already chosen a random server for you, but if you dislike the server, you can change to another server by clicking the server. ( It will appear some choices, like Singapore 1/2/3/4/5, Toronto 1/2/3/4/5, etc. )

Besides register, fill your username and choose the server, you also have to choose your pet, which is the main feature of the game. There are 3 starting pets at the start for you to choose, which are Wolf, Rabbit, and Bear. Every pets have their own type and skills, for examples, Wolves are fire type and their skills were fire, too. (They make a big fire ball around them and deal damage to nearby enemy when their skills were activated ) Besides their skills, every pet also have their own stats , like their own speed, regenerate, etc. Make sure to click the link that says "stats" for more info on pets and animals.

After done with these, you are ready to start your game.

Concepts of Taming.io[]

Age[]

Age is essentially an indicator of the player level. Upon reaching any age up to Age 25/26/27, a new weapon or tool will be unlocked, available for the player to select. There are many ways to obtain XP, including hitting obstacles (wood, stone, etc.), killing animals and other tamers. The amount of XP provided by obstacles differ - for example, logs (a type of wood) gives more XP than other obstacles. The first few ages tend to go relatively quick: however, the XP required to go up further will increase quite exponentially.

Among different types of resources, chests, presents/eggs and logs can grant you XP the fastest. Hitting a chest a few times can get you to age 1 easily. You could also kill the higher scored players for plenty of age. Killing adult (100 XP each) and boss (400 XP each) animals will give you and your pet more XP. Sometimes, two different resources can spawn next to each other and farming both at the same time will give you both resources and more XP than just farming one. In essence, the more resources you obtain from an object, the more XP you get.

Resources[]

Resources are important in the game that it gives us resources to build structures and use tools. There are 4 types of resources, which are: (GUIDE) Beginner's Guides (1) Wood, (GUIDE) Beginner's Guides (2) stone, (GUIDE) Beginner's Guides (3) food (also known as "apples" due to their appearance) and (GUIDE) Beginner's Guides (4) Gold. Resources can be generated everywhere on the server, which makes it easy to find. Hammers can gather resources faster and axes can gather wood faster. Food can gather on berry bushes and also can get from killing players and mobs. Stone and wood are used for building structures, using bows and crossbows, using slingshots and repairing buildings. Apples are used to heal you with food or to use the appletors. Gold can increase your score, which affects your badge level in the long run, and can buy you useful hats that grants various boosts to the gameplay (note: hats are not permanent, they last only until a session is over).

Healing[]

When you take some damage on the server by players or mobs, you need to heal. To heal, you need Food. You will not be healed automatically, unlike many other games.

Food can be obtained by hunting and breaking berry bushes. In the early age you only have apples, which only restores 10 health points. After your age increases, you can obtain even more food. As you age, your healing food branches off to different categories with unique mechanics. There are three branches: one, just healing (e.g. the cookie); two, gradual healing (e.g. sandwich); and three, lastly, healing with extra "defence" (e.g. steak).

Besides of eating food to heal yourself, you can also get healed by other players or you can heal other players. You need an appletor and some food to heal them, just use the appletor to shoot other players or enemy and they will get healed. Wearing a nurse hat can heal players even effectively.

Alliance[]

Besides of playing alone and defending yourself, you can also choose to play alongside other players, build bases and fight together. There are two types of "alliances": teams and clans. There is a common confusion between the two: teams only last until you stop playing, but clans are permanent and will last unless you get kicked/leave.

To create/join a team, there is a button on the top right. Joining a team will render yourself friendly with your teammates. Joining a clan is done in the main menu.

Tools and Weapons[]

Weapons can help you even effectively for killing players or farming. Your first melee weapon will be unlocked at age 1 and your second weapon (bow, shield, wrench) will be unlocked at age 4.

There are 11 types of melee weapons, which are:

  • Axe: A relatively high damage output, farms resources faster but has low reload and range. The Axe is the optimal weapon for farming animals, but not PvP, as the player speed is reduced greatly.
  • Labrys: High damage with a 360 degree attack. Good for PvP, not so much for fighting animals. Branches off from the axe at age 6.
  • Daggers: Short range, but extremely versatile. The recommended weapon for both farming animals and PvP, and has the highest DpS of any weapon of relative level.
  • Cleavers: The perfect weapon for killing animals, but is generally handicapped in player battles. Branches off from daggers at age 6.
  • Spear: A very long range weapon that does high damage. However, it's low reload makes it struggle against animals.
  • Sword: An all-rounded weapon, just like the daggers. It is also seen very often in PvP.
  • Hammer: Offers very high movement speed and crazy gathering speed. However, it is extremely weak as it deals very little damage in terms of PvP or fighting animals. Recommended for base building.
  • Katanas: A more polarised version of the sword, has longer range but slower attacks. Branches off from the sword at age 6.
  • Pickaxes: Gathers even more resources than the hammer, in exchange of movement speed. Branches off from the hammer at age 6.
  • Naginatas: Has the longest range out of any weapons. High damage, and decent reload. A fatal weakness of this weapon is its blind spot - foes that gets too close are immune to damage.
  • Gloves: The weapon with the least range. Does moderate damage, and has a chance (25%) to knock out enemies, stunning them. It was an extremely overpowered weapon in an event for the 2nd Anniversary, but was nerfed after it. The usage of this weapon is scarce, seen very rarely due to its unreliability.

There are 4 types of long-range weapons, which are:

  • Bow: Shoots arrows.
  • Crossbow: Stronger arrows, longer range, but much slower than the bow.
  • Musket: Shoots bullets at a fast pace, but does reduced damage against animals.
  • Minigun: Extremely quick reload, but is inaccurate and consumes loads of resources.

Note: The bow can be unlocked at age 4. You then must age up to age 10 to get Crossbow and Musket.

There are also two types of weapons that are used to defend, which are:

  • SHIELD, BLOCKS MELEE AND PROJECTILE DAMAGE
  • CRYSTAL SHIELD, BLOCKS LESS MELEE AND PROJECTILE DAMAGE BUT SPECIALIZES IN BLOCKING SKILL DAMAGE

Tools can also be handy on taming, defending or repairing.

There are a few types of tools in the game:

  • WRENCH, REPAIRS BROKEN BUILDINGS.
  • APPPLETOR, TAME PETS EVEN EFFECTIVELY (NOT ALL), HEAL OTHER PLAYERS AND ANIMALS.
  • SLINGSHOT, TAME PETS EVEN EFFECTIVELY (NOT ALL), DEAL SOME DAMAGE TO ENEMIES.
  • SADDLE, CAN RIDE ON SOME BOSS PETS.

Axes, daggers, spears, swords, katanas, hammers, bows, crossbows, wrenches, and shields can be upgraded to gold, ruby, amethyst, sapphire, amber, diamond, and emerald as your age grows. You can also upgrade your appletor or slingshot to gold in age 25. (If you had chosen one.)

  • STRUCTURES

Structures are buildings that can be placed for some use. As same as weapons, structures also can be upgraded to gold, ruby, amethyst, sapphire, amber, diamond, and emerald. When starting, you will have wooden walls, wooden spikes, wooden doors, and wooden windmills. You can unlock more structures in age 3 such as turrets, fire/ice/electric/plant towers, stone doors, stone windmills, etc. You can also unlock stone walls at age 2.

  • WALLS- PROTECTS THE BASE, BLOCK PLAYERS AND MOBS.
  • DOORS- PROTECTS THE BASE, PLAYERS WITH SAME CLAN AND YOURSELF CAN GO THROUGH THE DOOR. BLOCK MOBS AND ENEMIES AWAY.
  • SPIKES- DAMAGES NEARBY ENEMIES, KEEP ENEMIES AWAY.
  • WINDMILLS- GENERATES GOLD.
  • TURRETS- SHOOTS AT NEARBY ENEMIES, DEALS HIGH DAMAGE.
  • FIRE TOWER- CAST A FIRE SPELL TO ENEMIES, DEALS HIGH DAMAGE.
  • ICE TOWER- CAST AN ICE SPELL TO ENEMIES, DEALS HIGH DAMAGE.
  • ELECTRIC TOWER- CASTS AN ELECTRIC SPELL TO ENEMIES, DEALS HIGH DAMAGE.
  • REPAIR TOWER- REPAIRS YOU AND YOUR TEAMMATES' BUILDINGS, UP TO 4 BUILDINGS RANGE.
  • WATER TOWER- HEALS YOU AND YOUR PETS
  • TAMING PETS

If your pet died in the game, you can tame a new pet. You can tame only 3 pets. First, you need to find a sleeping baby animal. Then get closer, a paw button will appear below the screen, make sure you don't attack the animal else it will run away. Later, click the button, (or press ".") a heart will appear on top of the animal, and wait....

If the heart had broken, that means you had failed, and it WILL attack you, and sadly you have to 𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗜𝗧. Some pets are fire types and that means they are weak for water types, but they are strong for plant types, etc. You can refer to the game for more info about pets. If the heart is intact, it will be your loving companion that will die for you. (and when it turns into a boss you can ride it!)

Besides than, you can buy a tamer's cap that costs 2500 gold to increase the taming chance. You can also use slingshots and appletors to increase the taming chance of some pets. (Not ALL!)

A small tip for taming: Press the paw button, and while your taming it keep on hitting it, this is so the pet can die way more easy if it rejects your loving arms.

  • PETS

Pets are the main feature of the game, they can protect you and defend you from anything dangerous. There are 3 types of growing stages of a pet, which are baby pets, which give less XP and in small size with low damage and health. Then the adult pets, which gives more XP and in normal size. And finally the boss pets, which gives the most XP and has the biggest size and very powerful.

Every pets have their own skills depending on their ability, some pets are fire types, like wolves, etc. Which are weak for water types, and strong against plant types, etc.

  • GOLD/SCORES

Golds are also known as scores in the game, the more gold you have, the more scores you get. There are several ways to get gold. You can kill players and animals for gold. You can also place windmills to generate gold slowly. Besides that, you can also mine gold at the gold mine to get more gold. You can also kill bosses and destroy their chests for gold, although for a beginner, it's better to kill bosses with a (TRUSTED) teammate. You can also kill the golden apples chests around the map to gain a little gold.

  • SHOP

You can purchase hats or accessories at the shop. "Money" in the game had been replaced by gold. Some hats are useless but some hats are useful. For example: Wearing a tamer's cap can increase taming chance, wearing a helmet can decrease damage, etc. You can read the info about the hat at the shop.

As same as hats, accessories also have their uses. Wearing a dragon's wing can increase sword and katana's damage, wearing a wolf tail makes wolves more powerful, etc.

STARTING OUT - AGE 1 , AGE 2 AND AGE 3

Since you MAY understand about everything in the game that you need, now you are ready to get started. Once you enter your game, first look around your surroundings, if there are animals or other players and they are chasing you, it is better to retreat. After getting to safety, try to find some resources and start to collect wood, gold, and stone (try see what you like best) your age will slowly increase. Remember, logs and chests will give more XP, so if you find one, you will know what you got to do, and anything thats alive will give you loads of xp.

After reaching age 1, your screen will show 5 tools for you, which are the axe, daggers, spear, sword, and hammer. You can only choose one. So you should make a smart choice. After you have chosen your weapon, keep gathering more resources until you reach age two, and you can unlock a cookie or a stone wall. Cookies are useful for healing and stone walls are used for building your base. If you want to be a fighter or hunter, you may want to choose the cookie because it heals you more, although it gives you less heal per food. The cookie is needed in order to advance to better food items as you increase your age. If you want to build a base, choose the stone wall. (however not recommended, so take precautions)

Now you can start to hunt, if you want to reach other ages faster or get more food. Find wild animals such as wolves or rabbits, you can hunt baby animals or adults, but don't try to kill boss animals because they will use their skills and kill you and your baby pet easily.

When you reached age 3, just pick one that you like.

At age 4, you can choose bow or a shield, wrenches are used for base repairing anything you or your team has built.

At age 5, you can choose a saddle to ride a boss pet, or you can choose an appletor or a slingshot to tame pets more easily.

At age 8, you can choose a boost pad for escaping or a heal pad for healing.

After climbing some more stairs, the player, in order to get to the next part, needs to guess a 6-digit number (which is 151617), which again is quickly spoiled by the narration by default.

How long does the beginners guide take? ›

Summary The Beginner's Guide is a narrative video game from Davey Wreden, the creator of The Stanley Parable. It lasts about an hour and a half and has no traditional mechanics, no goals or objectives. Instead, it tells the story of a person struggling to deal with something they do not understand.

Is the beginners guide based on a true story? ›

The controversy led some to point out that the interpretation of the game was very personal, differing between each player; Wreden himself in light of the controversy refused to affirm or deny any interpretation of the game, until confirming the game's ultimately fictional nature in an in-depth interview with the ...

Does the beginners guide have Jumpscares? ›

There is one part where some theater lights come on suddenly, and they're a little bit loud (those big lights that sound like THUNK) if you're standing right next to them. I think that was the closest thing to a jumpscare in the game.

How many chapters are in beginners guide? ›

The Beginner's Guide consists in exploring and interacting with eighteen partially developed 3D environments (called "games", "chapters", or "levels") from a first-person perspective. Those occasionally feature simple puzzles and dialog trees.

What is the hardest 6 digit password? ›

There is no “hardest” 6-digit password. Since you specified digits, there are exactly 1,000,000 possible passwords (from “000000” to “999999”), for about 20 bits of entropy. This is insufficient unless there are other strong methods (such as increasing lock-out times) used to prevent guessing attempts.

What are the chances of guessing a 6 digit code first try? ›

A six-digit code has 1,000,000 possible states, hence allows for a 1/1,000,000 chance to correctly guess it on the first try. Given that we can try thrice, the second chance is 1 / 999,999 and the third is 1 / 999,998.

What is every possible 6 digit code? ›

For six digits, there are one million possible codes.

Is the beginners guide worth it? ›

The Beginners Guide is a short but thought-provoking piece that tells a story that never fails to make me emotional. The way it delivers a message is unique and beautiful, and I can definitely recommend anybody interested to play it, especially if you are a creator of any kind: a writer, an artist, anything.

Is Coda a real person in The Beginners Guide? ›

Coda is fictional, as Davey confirmed in the Tone Control Podcast.

What do the three dots mean in the beginners guide? ›

The game explores the idea of 2 doors and a "dark space" in between. I believe the dots are the 2 doors and the middle one is the space between the doors, the place for reflection. This is also a metaphor for past, present, and future, the middle dot being the present.

Who is Davey Wreden's brother? ›

He originally went to school to study film, but realized it was not what he wanted for his particular work and focused his attention on the gaming world instead, stating that "wasn't so interesting to me, but there's still so much space for games to grow." Wreden is the brother of Douglas Wreden (also known as DougDoug ...
